Solution

RTLS Beacon location tracking

Use BLE beacons, gateways, RSSI thresholds and zone-based location logic to track personnel, equipment, safety events and last-seen positions.

Visual overview

RTLS beacon zone map

Shows the location model using beacons, gateways and RSSI thresholds.

RfidSpace RTLS uses active BLE beacon signals and gateways to create zone-based visibility for people, equipment and critical assets.

Beacon and gateway logic

Beacons broadcast identifiers; gateways capture signal strength, timestamp and location context.

  • BLE beacon
  • Gateway
  • Last seen

Zone-based location

The system focuses on operational zones such as room, line, warehouse area, floor or campus zone.

  • Zone
  • Floor
  • Proximity

RSSI thresholds

Signal thresholds are calibrated according to walls, metal density, racks and gateway placement.

  • Near
  • Far
  • Zone entry
  • Zone exit

RTLS workflow

1. Beacon broadcasts

A personnel badge or equipment beacon sends periodic BLE signals.

2. Gateway detects

Gateways collect signal, RSSI and time records.

3. Location is inferred

RfidSpace maps the signal to the most meaningful operational zone.

4. Alerts are generated

Unauthorized zone, inactivity, emergency and last-seen events are reported.

Gateway placement

Placement is planned according to coverage, walls, shelves, power and network availability.

  • Site survey
  • Signal test
  • Coverage plan

UHF RFID difference

UHF RFID is stronger for gates, tunnels and counting; beacon RTLS is stronger for zone visibility and last-seen tracking.

  • UHF: count and gate
  • BLE: location and safety
  • Hybrid architecture

Hardware and integration

Recommended hardware

The project can use UHF handhelds, fixed readers, antennas, RFID tunnels, printers, PDKS terminals, BLE gateways or ESL access points depending on the workflow.

  • RFID handhelds
  • Fixed readers and antennas
  • RFID printers and labels

RfidSpace integration

Reads are mapped to product, asset, personnel, location, document and time records. API logs and user actions remain auditable.

  • REST API
  • ERP/WMS/POS integration
  • Role-based access
